Cool Windows Live Mobile (Beta) - CAB file download link

Windows Live Mobile (beta) is now once again up and running, and it is awesome compared to the built-in MSN host. You can download the CAB file below (simply copy to your device or storage card, run, and you're good to go).

It is slow for the first few minutes running as it syncs all your contacts and such (it's not a bad idea to backup your MSN contacts from your PC first). Be patient, because after it's done the syncing, it runs fast and smooth (on my Axim X51v at least).

Enjoy! Oh ya, post your thoughts, opinions, tricks you noticed, etc.

Damn rights this is better. I seen your post in another thread, downloaded the CAB, then installed it. Good stuff I tell you.

Ya, it wasn't a thread specifically about the new Windows Live Mobile, so I figured I'd create one to let people know about this pretty decent app. I like the fact that it integrates with your contacts, that you can have a display pic, and a tag message. As well, it's much easier to move between multiple chats.

Yes, DO backup your contacts. I lost mine :( but I think I have an old backup list somewhere. (I hope)

Initial look.....big improvement! Thanks again for posting the cab file!

Originally everything was fine, but then I did a hard reset, and when it restored my contacts, I think it got confused. If it does happen, and you don't have a back-up, you just have to go through your contact list, go to Menu, and choose Add to Windows Live (for each contact). I have 125 contacts on my MSN, so that took a few minutes, but not a major big problem.

As for which build, I know there have been at least two builds so far. I'm not sure the first build will still work however (I had it, and it wouldn't actually connect).

I thought this new Windows Live Mobile was for phone versions of Windows Mobile 5.0 -- not Pocket PC. I'm wrong?

I'm using mine on my Axim X51v. I have a Motorola Q as well, but for now I'm gonna stick with the stock MSN on that due to data usage (Live has graphics and stuff, so I'm guessing it uses more data).

Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of my hotmail folders in messaging? Now that I have Windows Live, it has synched my folders in Hotmail meaning I have 2 of each folder. Hotmail used to sync to my PDA when I used messenger over my wireless connection. Now it syncs through Windows Live. I'm running WM5 on X51v.

Thanks.

I know you can uncheck the e-mail syncronization option, that may do the trick. As for the Hotmail folder built in to Pocket Outlook, I think that will always be there (but I'm guessing the two will be more integrated in the next OS).

Have you tried checking in your Messaging app? The email should be there.
