WM5 and VPN software conflicts

I may be coming late to the party, but for those that don't already know, most VPN client software installed on computers can interfere with the new TCP/IP bridge that AS 4.X uses. Since WM5 requires 4.X or better, you may find that you can't sync using a USB cable.

It took me quite a while to figure out that the DLINK VPN client installed on my PC was blocking AS. Even with the newest 4.5B, which MS claims works around VPN, does not work if I have my client software installed. That's right, not even running. Just installed, and AS won't work.

That's kept me from upgrading to the X51v. Fortunately, I just verified that AS will work on my PC if I sync via Bluetooth. Apparently, that connection/protocol does not use the TCP/IP bridge to communicate. Needless to say, my X51 is on order.

I validated this with my X50v that I upgraded two WM5. I've been able to sync via BT on both my home and laptop PC - with the DLINK (a re-packaged Checkpoint client).

Hope this helps others who may be on the bubble.
