This has been my pet peeve with WM5! I have had to re-enter the WEP key every couple of days or so, and no cut/paste makes it a real hassle!
I discovered (I think) that my problems were coming from having multiple APs with the same SSID. Some were 802.11b, others were 802.11g. When I would turn on my WiFi, the WEP key would suddenly be gone.
I never had this problem at home, where I have a single 802.11g AP.
I tried using a programmed key sequence on my Belkin IR keyboard to paste it into the Dell Wireless Utility, but without any luck. a string of asterisks appeared in the WEP field, but it was never recognized as a valid key.
In looking for a solution, I tried Hitchhiker, which just got confused by the number of APs with the same SSID. Then I tried the Odessey client. I had been avoiding the Odessey client due to the concerns with it's memory usage, but it seems to work for now.
If you're interested, I'll post later if it was a successfull solution.
