Hi, is it possible to install programs/games etc, to my SD card rather than on PDA memory? (X51V)
If yes, how? Please, if possible, provide some info for both exe and cab extensions

thank you!!
Yes you can install to a SD card. 99% of my programs are installed there.
When you execute and install file on your PC, with activesync running, it will ask if you want to install the program to its default location. Click 'No'. Then it will give you and drop down so you can pick were you want to install it.
Remeber, never take your SD card out of your x51v if you have programs installed to it.
As for the cab file, go to http://s-k-tools.com and grab a free program called cab-installer. This will allow you to choose were to install a program via a cab file. I use it all the time.

Good luck!
Thank you for your quick response!
Some more questions:
1. Up to now my pc has never ask me where to install the programs. I guess it is because I haven't insert any SD card yet?
2. Why should not I remove it once I have installed programs? I am asking this because I ordered 2 sd cards already. I am planning the 1st to be used for skyscape programs and the other for games. Should I forget this plan?
Yes you can. When you install a program either by activesync or by a cab file, the 51v will ask you where you want to install the program. Your choice, depending on your setup will be Device, SD, or CF. Just select the location and you are good to go.
I'm curious why you would need more than one SD. SD cards are available in many sizes with 1gb and 2gb being very common. Skyscape programs aren't very large. I would think a 2gb SD card would keep you happy for quite a long time. In addition, you also have the CF slot for additional memory storage.
In my case, I have most of my programs stored on my 2gb SD card. My 2gb CF card has my music and photos. I have about 135mb left free on my 51v main memory.
I have over 10 skyscape programs on my SD and they barely take much room on my SD.

Thank you all guys!!
As far as CAB, I think that should first transfer them to your axim and then install them.
EXE on the other hand are installed via your pc.
P.S: I m not pretty sure though since I am a newbie (got mine 3 days ago)
Cab files are to be transferred intact to the device (usually to My Documents, although it doesn't matter). When you tap on the file from File Explorer, the installation process begins.
If you download an .exe file for a new program, that is to be run on the PC, and automates the installation to the device. It also leaves the installation info on your PC, so that if you need to re-install the program at another time, you can easily do it in ActiveSync's Add/Remove programs function.

Just to clarify: you do NOT need a Cab installer program such as Cabinstl for WM5 devices since you will be prompted to select the install location for CAB files. With devices running WM2003SE and earlier, however, you DO need Cabinstl (or equivalent) since all CAB files will automatically install onto main memory.
