Lol no "legal" worries for asking but to answer your question, its up to Dell if they provide it.
Asof right now, no update for any device has been released, aside from leaked ROMs that only work for HTC excalibur sadly...

It's fine to ask if a WM6 upgrade is possible, but it's NOT fine to ask where you can find the illegal link to the upgrade or to post the link yourself. ;)

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!

Most of the time people here are relatively cool, if you want to turn your device into a paperweight with an untested/illegal ROM then most of them will sit back and just watch you do it... maybe they'll grin while they watch. Some may even tell you that you could end up with a paperweight *before* they show you how to do it. ;)

Here's a link to a Microsoft devs blog that lists some good reasons why you don't want to be using leaked or unofficial ROMs on your device, not least of which is the paperweight effect.

http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/...19/482683.aspx

I know you're not putting WM6 on your device, but is there any reason to *really* want it? Does it do anything that WM5 doesn't?

Too little to even bother, it's really a cosmetic makeover when you add it all up.
LOL someone at the Wisbar Advanced forums has made a full skin suite of Crossbow ^_^ truly awesome, too bad that xillion guy didn't make it 1st.
(I wish I could get the Crossbow 3Dish icons to finish it off)

This was made by Tuhin (not mine) from the Wisbar Advanced forum, very happy with this creation.
Must have Wisbar Advanced 2 to use it.

If this doesn't work just look for Xcillion's Crossbow thread (I forget what page but look for Tuhin's post, 10 maybe :/)

Yeah i read about that surely you can get your PDA fixed if u do brick it? Oh and i wanted crossbow cause its got better messaging features like live messenger and stuff. I saw a crossbow theme it was well nice shame i keep getting an error from Wisbar advance 2 when i start up my PDA saying it doesnt have a valid certificate. Is there anything i can do to make the icons eg pocket msn, programs, settings etc to make them look nicer? Also Dell saying that they wont make any more Axims till the market catches up means we will all get crossbow roms? I wish lol i like the vista look for it and it apparently has better WiFi and Bluetooth support which i use both of them most of the time.

You can *probably* repair your PDA if you manage to brick it, but if you upgrade the bootloader (likely needed in order for WM6 to boot) then if that fails you can well and truly end up with something that can only be used for spare parts. Flashing a custom ROM (or even a manufacturer supplied one) always has a risk of completely killing your device, with unofficial ROMs the risk is greater.

You can get Windows Live Mobile for WM5, I've seen it in one of the forums here.

As to Dell never giving us WM6, there is no proof that they won't, and conversely no proof that they will, if you know better then point me to a reliable source. Hearsay from phoning or chatting online with Dell tech support isn't worth the paper it's written on.

What extra Wifi or BT support is going to be added?

I'm not meaning to get at anyone, I just really want to know why so many people *have* to have WM6....

apparently it has not sure what though. Ive just been reading up on it basically its vista for PPC so it looks good but nothing much has changed apart from the looks and the vista quotes "Faster and more Stable" Cool i want a good messenger does it install on WinXP x64? soo anoying that some ppc apps dont install on it when x64 has 32 bit support arrg.

Crossbow hints in the name that it is a cross between WM6 and "photon" and thats not going to be out for another few years by that time we will have PDAs that can quite easly run a desktop OS like XP or something in microsofts books a few years means at least 5 lol.

No one apart from the russian testers are talking about crossbow if only i could read russian hmm.

Dell will probs give us WM6 but it wont be free as it is windows and nothing windows or most microsoft programs are free. It would be good though if they do release WM6 for Axim it will depend on how much it costs for me though cause it does look alot like WM5 just more graphical.

Does it work on my QVGA X51?

Thanks,

Kurt
Nah its VGA, though 2 others have made QVGA versions but I never looked at them since I knew my X51v wouldn't handle it.

I went onto Wisbar forums and found such a nice vista theme it actually looks like vista for PPC QVGA aswell. What is the differenece between VGA and QVGA? isnt it just the resolution is higher. I found a nice crossbow theme on the Wisbar forum aswell it was ok not great though.

Im waiting for photon now haha only need a new PDA to run it. Crossbow is actually the same as WM5 but it looks pretty as with all microsoft releases the more changed a more powerful your PC is needed. With Crossbow the system requirements are excatly the same as WM5.

VGA and QVGA,
Yeah, it's just the resolution is all.
Though it is horrid if you move it to a device that has a different res.

BTW I wonder what "Photon" will look like (not to mention what it'll have/do.)

I fully agree with that, just like Windows Vista. As they would do on my standarized tests.....

WM6:WM6 as WINXP:WINVista
