Daylight Savings Time Patch Confusion

I've just gotten around to installing the daylight savings time patch.

Microsoft has a download for the ppc, and another for Outlook on the desktop. The ppc loaded fine, but when I tried to update Outlook, I got a message that the process failed and another message that I had to make Outlook my default email program. I have to use Outlook Express for email because of my internet service provider (roadrunner).

Can somebody help me work around this? I thought about just temporarily changing the default email program, but I can't find where to do this and I didn't know if that would create a bigger problem.

Yeah, the downloadable CAB file has been out for a week.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...g/default.mspx

4. Using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile browser on your device, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx and download the Daylight Saving Time 2007 Update for Windows Mobile. This file will install the update directly on the device. On your device, navigate to the file you downloaded, and then click on it to install the update.

I have Roadrunner and use Outlook as my email client. Did someone tell you you can't use Outlook with Roadrunner email? It's a standard POP3 email service.

Yeah, I was told a couple of times that roadrunner doesn't support Outlook, only Outlook Express. Do I have this wrong?

I think you were misinformed. As I said, I've been using it, and I have time warner RoadRunner internet service.

All you have to do is configure your RR account under Outlook. If they don't have configuration instructions for Outlook, just use the values from the Outlook Express config in Outlook. It's POP3, and both Outlook Express and Outlook support POP email based accounts.
Best Regards,

Yeah. When setting up Outlook, make sure you set up a POP account.

I also use Outlook as my email program on roadrunner. I think what they mean by "does not support" is that if you have a problem with Outlook, they will not help you with it.

Thanks--you're all quite right and have been most helpful. I switched over to Outlook and it is working fine.

I installed the patch, but unfortunately now my PDA thinks I'm in France.

Edit: Somehow, I just got airline tickets to Paris in the mail. What gives?

I just tried to update all levels (XP Home SP2, Outlook 2003, Dell Axim X30)

I used MS link http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst for XP Home & Outlook 2003

I used the link posted here for the Axim X30 2003SE. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx

My desktop & Outlook are fine. The Axim, however, is an hour off during the new DST window(s). I unistalled & did a soft reset & tried again + I did the Time Zone change that was noted + I synced with Outlook ... still no good. What did I do wrong? Thanks, Barry

I overlooked one of the instructions when I applied the patch to my Axim. The directions from Microsoft say that you have to change the time zone to something DIFFERENT than your own time zone, and then change it back to the correct time zone. I missed that the first time around, but after doing that, things seem to work right.

Problem Fixed: I had been using the link for those who connect their Axim to a computer and attempting to use my desktop to install the update on My Axim. It failed twice. When I went to the link that was for people who DO NOT connect to a computer & downloaded directly to the Axim & installed ON the Axim - the update worked correctly. Thanks, Barry
