I am totally new here so if this is in the wrong place, please move it and/ or tell me where it should go, thanks :)
Well, around 2 months ago I took the plunge and bought my first PDA, a Dell axim x51v (624Mhz version). I had researched everything available and decided that for my purposes, that was a very appropriate choice given the WM5 softwares capabilities and suitability to my needs, and after receiving the PDA, was reassured of that assumption. It was fantastic to have such a versatile device on my person all the time. I used it for everything from games to typing letters and notes on the train on the way to work. I also use it for multimedia such as photographs and audio and video files. These are some of the many many uses that I have found for this fantastic PDA.
My problem came when I started looking into the built in wireless adapter. At first, it was great. My appartment in the city as well as my house both have wireless networks, and I was looking forward to being able to use the internet on my pda just like on my laptop, to browse the web and acces/ send emails. This worked flawlessly for about 2 weeks, then everything went haywire. The first thing that happened was that the wireless connection would connect to the router, then every time I would try to load a web page, the browser would give me an error code (I cant recall what it was and dont have a record of it, sorry). Also, trying to sign into pocket MSN (a service that had also worked flawlessly up until this point), an error something like "could not sign into pocket msn, please try again later" would pop up in a notification bubble. This persisted, and eventually I phoned Dell technical support and had a terrible time talking to a technical support adviser that didnt seem to know what he was talking about. The enquiry ended in me sending this email to the business sales account manager:
Following the email that you sent me and a problem that has developed in my Dell product, I am writing to you to try and resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
When I first received my Dell order for an Axim X51V handheld, I was more than pleased with it and with its performance. However, after around two weeks of use the wireless internet connection began failing to work, and eventually stopped alltogether. The bluetooth facility on the device is also faulty.
Upon calling the Dell customer services number on wednesday, I was transferred no less than 3 times to different departments, one for general customer support questions, one for Dell laptop support and one for Dell home PC support.
I finally got through to an Axim technical support advisor, on a line that was so bad that not only was there a delay of around 3 seconds before him hearing what I had said and vice versa, but also was so poor that I couldnt make out what the member of staff was saying half the time.
The technical support case is still open, as he had advised me to back up all data on the PDA and try a hard factory reset. Being an experienced electronic engineer and a PC technician myself, I had already tried these methods of fixing the problem, and have assumed by my own experience that there is a problem with the wireless adapter hardware in the device, or at the very least a fault in the firmware for the wireless hardware.
I have been very disappointed with the service that Dell have provided me with so far, and was very frustrated that a product which was so new could become faulty so soon after purchase. Please forward this email to the necessary department and see that my case is dealt with as soon as possible, as I know that being a business sales account manager you know the necessary steps to do so.
That evening I received a call from him. He made arrangments to have the PDA replaced saying that it was clearly faulty and that there would be no charge for the brand new unit. I received it in 3 days, 2 days earlier than it was due.
That was great, I restored a full backup (stored from the WM5 backup utility) of my "old" PDA after successfully testing that the internet now worked on the new Axim. The internet immediately stopped working, and the same problems started all over again

.
Half laughing and half crying, I realised that some of the software that I had installed on the axim had been conflicting with the wireless adapter, and had been transferred to the new PDA through the backup database. I did a hard factory reset after backing up only PIM databases, and restored that to the axim after the reset was complete. I was back in business. Lesson learned. If only... sigh.
It's 2 weeks since I did that now, and 3 days ago I set my PDA up to connect to o2 's(the mobile network provider) WAP site via bluetooth though my LG KG800 (chocolate) phone. This worked great, I had followed an intricate guide in the PDA Essentials magazine that was written for the x51v specifically. The problem was, that had been set up as my default connection to the internet, overriding the wireless connection method, and I have no idea how to switch between them...
To make matters worse, I installed some new programs (Resco file explorer and code wallet pro 6) the day after setting up the bluetooth WAP connection and now have no idea if these programs are conflicting as the last ones did or if the bluetooth connection is where the conflict lies.
I know that was an insanely long post but I am actually desperate now, I dont know what to do about it and if I knew what to do I wouldnt know how to either
So I guess the post serves 2 purposes, to start a discussion on the usability of WM5 (yes, I
know WM6 is on the way), and to ask for some major help from someone who really knows their way around the OS.
Thanks in advance,
