Alternative file explorers, or file explorer tweaks

Resco File Explorer is damn cool, but I'm just not sure I want to pay $30 for it. The single most useful feature to me is the addition of the Properties option on the context menu. (I cannot believe Microsoft did not include this out of the box.) Is there any other way to view (and edit!) a file's (or folder's) properties? Can something be added to the Registry to put the Properties on the context menu? And if not, what other third party file explorers are out there that have this feature? (Less than $30, I hope!)

You can try Total commander, I think it does what you want and is free.

I have used Total Commander and am currently using Resco File Explorer and can honestly say Resco is way better. We already knew that. $30 better. Thats a judgment you will have to make, but it shouldn't be difficult since one is free and the other has a trial period. Let me just warn you that TC looks like crap on a VGA screen.

Well, Total Commander has the properties as does GSFinder+ Both are free applications. Both allow for network shares, but they are not as elegant in their implementation as Resco Explorer. Also resco has a recycle bin feature and I think they are the only ones that have that. All of that said. I use the two free ones and am very happy and $30 richer.

I have used both and must admit that Resco is a nicer piece of software versus TC. That being said, I'm not dishing the $30 for Resco for WM5

Eh, that's why I got the Resco Utility Package on sale, getting Photo Viewer and Keyboard Pro to go with it. I personally found the features useful enough to shell out the extra money, but being able to get a discount due to a sale made things that much better. ;)

I personally use the FTP addon and the registry editor all the time - between those two and the Explorer part itself, I'm well satisfied with my purchase. But, like I said, I got it on sale so that probably colors my view of the matter.

Trust me, the $30 is worth it. I tried TC but it didn't cut it for me. You won't regret buying it, ever.

I consider it one of the top 3 pieces of software on WM. ;)

Total commander is sufficient for me. MobSync has a recycle bin that runs on PC and the PDA--also free. I do not mind spending money but I just could not see a real benefit to spending the money here. A cool thing is to launch TC with a pencommander macro to a specific directory like my Books directory:

<#Start>"\Program Files\Total Commander\cecmd.exe"
<#Delay>1000
<#BtnClick>16,71
<#SetStr4>\CF Card\Books\
<#CallLib>UsrSetClipboardFromStr 4
<#Type><*ctr_dn>v<*ctr_up><*return>

There are keyboard shortcuts to other TC options that you can access with pencommander or an external keyboard:

Total Commander Keyboard Shortcuts

Alt File
Alt+S Show
Ctl+R Refresh
Ctl+A Select All
Ctl+T Tree View (buggy)
Ctl+D Quick Favorites Menu
Ctl+F Search Menu
Ctl+H Help Command
Ctl+X Cut
Ctl+C Copy
Ctl+V Paste

TAB = Switches between windows

Also be sure to use the TC beta for VGA.
