Several New Articles re: WM5.0

Hello:

Received my Sep '05 issue of Pocket PC yesterday and thought I'd mention that there's a whole section of articles on WM5 and some of its' points. Seems to be well worth the read.

Waitaminute! I feel ripped here! Where's AUGUST's issue gone?!

AUGUST WENT AWOL! I'm Telling The First Sergeant! I'll have August up on charges before it's head is done spinning.

/grin/ Well, I would if it were in the Army anyway. :-p

HUH?

On page 16 in Chris De Herrera's article, "Windows Mobile 5.0: A Look Under the Hood", he talks about Active Sync 4.0 and that "Microsoft has removed some functionality from Activesync such as network (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, GPRS, or Dial-up) synchronization and file conversion. The network synchronization was removed to address security concerns."

What article are you reading?

This is from the article on Pocket PC Magazine's website.....

ActiveSync 4.0

Microsoft will release a new version of ActiveSync with the introduction of Windows Mobile 5.0. ActiveSync 4.0 will include a new partnership wizard that will make it easier to connect to a PC or a network, through a cabled or a wireless connection. According to Microsoft, the new version of ActiveSync is easier to use and syncs faster. In addition, if the connection is interrupted in the middle of a synchronization, it will resume from the point of interruption when you reconnect your device.

As mentioned above, ActiveSync 4.0 can sync Contacts photos. In addition, it now supports USB 2.0 and Bluetooth sync, includes security enhancements, and handles errors more efficiently. It will be shipped with new devices and will be available free on Microsoft’s site for existing Windows Mobile users.

OK, I think that we are on the same page now.... The articles from the September 2005 issue have not been put on the website yet. I searchec their site and I believe you're reading Rich Hall's article, "First Look: Windows Mobile 5.0; Microsoft announces built-in software advances for future devices"

You're talking about the BlueTooth Syncing he mentions in the article, Yes, this is the second time that I've read something to the evvect that 4.0 permits BT activesyncs. That's even after numerous sources have reported that WiFi and internet syncing and the like had been removed for security reasons. I've been using Activesync 4.0 for about 3 months or so now and can testify that here doesn't seem to be the WiFi ability. My desktop stuff is'nt setup for that yet but I do plan to look at it RSN. Honest though, WiFi sync is not there. Go to Chris De Herrera's Windows CE Website using, http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/activ...tivesync4.0.htm you can read the most informative article on ActiveSync 4.0 that I've seen to date. Thanks for the reply and I do hope we all are able to find out first hand about 5.0 RSN.

I had installed activesyn 4.0 but had to downgrade to 3.8. I am very surprised that remote syncing has been remove...

They should have left the user decide on security....
