A Free Option

cwolf78, If you don't need to be able to transfer files from your XP machine to your PDA you can use LogMeIn.com. It is totally free if you don't need the aforementioned file transfer ability (you could always email the file to yourself from the XP machine while logged in anyway). it allows complete control of your XP machine from your PDA (or any other internet connected computer) with 256bit encryption so it is secure.

If you do need file transfer ability they do also have a Pro version for a monthly fee but so far I have been very happy with the free version, been using it for a while now to connect to my work XP machine while out on appointments over an EVDO connection.

I have never tried GoToMyPC but have heard nothing but good things about it but this would be another option to check out.

Well, I had overlooked a simple little program 'Terminal Services' that came preloaded on WM5. I was able to control my desktop on my home PC with ease. The Terminal Services program is very simple, but it works great. I knew there had to be some other way than a visit to the middle man.

Try using viewVNC on the pocket PC, and one of the VNC servers (RealVNC, tightVNC, UltraVNC) on the desktop.
