Backup Question

I apologize for what may seem to be a basic question (I've had my Ipaq since Christmas, so I'm still learning...).

I've got my system just the way I want it after performing many of the tweaks suggested in this forum. Now I would like to back up my pda. Is there a program included with WM5 to do this, or will I need to install one? I really don't want to spend any money, since I just bought a 2g SD card.

Oh...one other question. I wanted to set up my pda to print to my networked printer at home. I went to the link provided within my ipaq, but apparently, HP doesn't support this feature any more. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Nathalie

There is no backup software on your PDA and there is no free backup software, so if you want to backup your PDA, you'll need to purchase an application. Here are links to some applications you could try:

Sunnysoft: http://www.sunnysoft.cz/en_clanek.php?clanekid=51

SPB Software house: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en

Sprite has recently announced that it's software is compatible with WM5.0 and HP Protect/Credent:

HP discontinued it's free printing software last October and even if you were able to get a copy of the software it would not run on a WM5.0 PDA. Printing will also require purchasing software. Here are links to some applications you can try:

My PDA runs windows mobile 2003, which comes with a "lite" version of Sprite backup on it, so that software suits my needs. I haven't heard any complaints about Sunnysoft or SPB backup, so I think either one of those is pretty good - I've used some of SPB's other products and they are top notch, so I might be more inclined to use that one.

Sprite has a good reputation with users and seems to be customer service oriented, but the version of Sprite's backup software that will run on IPAQ's was only introduced this week, so I'd probably monitor other users's experience with this software before trying it.

Tossing in my 2cents ...

Spb Backup is an excellent option as well. I've been using it on WM5 & WM2003se since the beta and it has been an excellent application on both OS's.

I also used Sprite during and after the WM5 beta for their app, and to be honest while the application was great, their user support was definitely lacking - at the end of the beta they left a lot of people without support for over a week between when the beta expired and when the product was released, and in many cases just ignored the requests for help with getting thier data back.

Anyway, I love Spb - I'll never bash someone for using Sprite as it is also a great app. I just think since Sprite has been around so long, that people forget there are competing products that deserve a chance.
