Question How do you make *.tsk themes?

'lo

I was looking for a way to make my x51v black, rather than the Microsoft-provided Blue 'n' Red options. It seems like the only WM5.0-compatible theme editors cost $$$ (and have a terrible user-interface *cough* ThemeMaker).

Is there any other way to create themes besides ThemeMaker, preferably for free?

If there isn't, I could always whip together a simple and usable (and free) editor if anyone would use it besides me.

You can use Microsoft Theme Maker to create themes that can be used on yor Pocket PC. Even though the description for this software states that is makes themes for Windows Mobile 2002 devices, I create themes with this software all the time for my windows mobile 2003 and WM5.0 pocket pcs.

Download details: Pocket PC Theme Generator Power Toy 2.0

You'll install the application to your computer and modify or create themes there. Then you can copy them to your pocket pc and use them.

try benoit thornhart's ThemeGenCE

CodePPC - Programmez votre Pocket PC

the interface can be a bit confusing at times but with a bit of trial and error you'll be in full control. it's way way way better than the microsoft one, which does not really support vga devices. ThemeGenCE lets you generate a theme file for any kind of pocket pc screen sizes. it also lets you edit the base hue coloring of wm5 devices.

The best freeware theme generator is ThemeGenCE. It works with VGA devices and with wm5. It deals very well with the HUE issues and is full featured. You will find many references for it on this site, the developer visits here from time to time, is your friend and you can find it here.
Good Luck.

I tried that before I made this thread, the *.tsk files it generates don't load on my Axim: the Today background nor Color scheme is altered. Hence why I asked :)

Thanks for the link. I tried it (and my brain assploded from the abohorrent UI design, blegh!) and whilst the *.tsk it generated correctly set the background image, it didn't alter any of the colors besides the "Important Notification" titlebar, despite there not being a single blue color in the *.tsk file's source.

I've attached the *.ini and *.xml files generated by ThemeGenCE in a Zip archive, can anyone explain why it doesn't work? (I'd upload the generated *.tsk, but there's a 100KB attachment limit)

Thanks

That site doesn't contain any utilities or instructions, it's just a collection of themes.

Does anyone have the file-format specification for the *.tsk files? I know they're cabs, but obviously there's more to it than that.
