Unable to download large files

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or wm5 problem but I suspect the later so I'm posting my ? here.
I recently aquired an x51v (wm5 A12). I also have owned an x50v wm2003se for 3 years. I went to download the flexmail cab (about 3.5M) on my x51v tethered bluetooth to my phone using netfront browser. It gets about 2/3 of the download then errors an unable to get data. The connection gets dropped and I have to soft reset the ax to re-establish an internet connection. I tried opera 8.65b with the same results except instead of an error it just hung and I had to soft reset to recover. I then fired up the x50v and netfront tethered to the same phone and it downloaded the entire file perfectly. Is there a 2Mb download limit in wm5 or better yet a registry patch? Am I the only one having this problem? I can't seem to find any posts about this but surely someone else would have noticed this before.

Question

First I have a few questions.

1. Who is your carrier?
2. What phone are you using?
3. Do you have an unlimited data plan?
4. How's your signal strength?

I tether my X51v to my SprintNextel LG Fusic 1xEVDO on a daily basis. And have successfully downloaded (on occasion) 30 MB files. However I have noticed a few things. The bluetooth connection between the axim and the Fusic seems to be a bottle neck. Using Broadband reports speed test I usually get between 200kb/sec. to 350kb/sec. Performing the same test on the Fusic it's self using the built-in browser or Opera mini 3/4beta I get close to 1Mb/sec. or even more. Something is choking the connection not sure what and I don't know who to ask.

The second thing I have noticed is that a slow connection will often drop/disconnect on it's own.

4 varies but where I was attempting this download (my desk @ work) signal is maxed out.

I too have tethered on a daily basis. I have no problems downloading large files on my x50v w/ wm2003se. I've only had the x51v since Tuesday and I'm just getting used to wm5, but again I can download the file with my x50v with the exact same conditions just can't with the x51v. I'm stumped and would like to get this working. Thanks

I'm on wifi now and I'm gonna try it. I'll post backmmy results.

Ok now I remember. I apologize. I have used the widcomm bluetooth stack on my x51v A12 for so long I've begun to forget what life was like before. I was never able to use the built-in bluetooth stack in A12 it wouldn't connect or it would drop the connection. Then I discovered Widcomm. Yes it takes up a lot of RAM but it's worth it if you want a stable connection. Get it here. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x...velopment.html

Well that was disappointing. I installed the new bt stack, re paired the devices, but the results were the same. Now I'm really stumped.

This is getting goofy. I downloaded the file perfectly with pie. Netfront and Opera still choke at 2.34Mb. I have it set to download to the sd card but I'm suspecting netfront may be cacheing it until an overflow causes it crash. Although why does it do okay on wifi? Hmmm.

Did you adjust any of the settings under the advanced button in the connections tab. The baud rate settings and ip settings can reak havoc. And no I don't know how they work.

As a last resort perform a hard-reset. Do not reinstall from a backup.

I maxed out the baud rate just like I did on the x50v. I'll try different settings of that and see what happens.

Exclamation Here's something else that might help!

I been trying to figure out why your downloads drop unexpectedly and I come across a few optimizations that might help.

First you'll need spbbackup; sprite backup so that you can backup your settings just in case. :hide:

Second you'll need sktools now click on view>system tweaks>Optimize. You should see this:
Make sure that all boxes are deselected.

Your focus should be on these two:

Select TCP Window Size tap action>Optimize for performance.

Then select IP mulitcasting>action>Optimize for stability.

I hope this helps. :)

P.S. If there is anyone else here who knows how to manipulate these setting better. Please chime-in thanks. :approve:

Speedy1979,
Thanks, I have sk tools and will give it a try. I had missed your response to my post until today. I was revisiting this post to update it to something I discovered today. If I download the file to main memory no problems occur. If I save the download to my sd card the ax will lock up and the only recovery is a soft reset. I have plenty of main memory left for my needs so it's now more of an inconvenience than a problem.
