Hellp please! Lost data in storage memory

Hi, for some reason I have lost all my files and pictures within the pda (storage memory) Didn't realise until I synced and now all gone from PC as well. Have no idea of cause, battery was fine. Is there anyway/programs that will recover the data from storage, cannot use backup on sd card as that is too out of date. (Yeah, I know, should have backed up more often!)

cheers

Kev

Hi Kevin. Welcome to the site!

I am not that familiar with WM5 and ActiveSync 4.x, but is it possible your sync settings may have changed? Did you install anything new lately? If you synced files to your desktop, it's possible they may be retrievable if they haven't already been overwritten. Try Googling "data recovery" for some possible software solutions (many have free demos). If these files are truly critical to you, I'd avoid doing anything on your desktop to prevent them from being overwritten.

Do google search for sd file recovery, file recovery, etc.

Here's one:

Freeware downloads System Utilities - Data Recovery Tools at SnapFiles.com

Do not use your SD or it will be overwritten.

Look in your computer's Recyle bin for your lost files and look in Outlook's Deleted Files for your missing contacts, appointments, tasks & notes.

re. lost data

Hi, many thanks for your suggestions, managed to get some files back from the hard drive on the pc, but had to re-enter the rest. Will now back up properly! What happened is that I noticed that the WM folder on the pc was blank, and of course it blanked everything on the pda when I sync'ed. I have no idea why all the files were gone from the pc, anyone else had this happen at all?

once again, many thanks

Kev

It has happened to me twice. I never could figure out how or why it happened...seems to be an ActiveSync quirck. In the beginning, I always kept a mirrored copy of the synching folder saved some place else on my computer hard drive. Now I do not sync files at all. I never really liked having files stored in main memory and now I have a computer that reads my SD cards, so I copy my files directly to my storage card.

backups and stuff

Hi, that actually sounds like a good idea. Have heard that active sync has a mind of it's own, will do that in the future.
many thanks for the advice
cheers
