prevent battery from full charge

Hello everybody,

I´m searching for a software tool or application which prevents the battery to be charged 100%.

Sounds a little bit crazy but that´s the way I like it. When shipping some units via airfreight, the battery should not be full charged. It has to be limited to p.e. 60%.

What I need is a tool which allows me to set up the battery charging level.

Does anybody have an idea how to realise that ?

Definitely a unique need. I could go into details on how battery moitoring circuits work. But, that doesn't answer your question. Long story short, I doubt there's a software package that will allow you to set the charging limits. There is usually a ckt in the PDA that will limit it to 100% so the battery will not over charge. However, this is not programmable.

There are hardware devices that will discharge batteries and monitor the level. But, you normally have to remove the battery from the device.

My only suggestion would be to leave the PDA on until the charge level gets to 60%. Then, pack and ship the device. I had to do this a number of years ago when the company I worked for was setting up, loading software and shipping laptop PCs to customers.

If you're charging from scratch 0% in every case why not just use a timer and some trials ?

Or maybe put a diode in series to the battery while charging - could work :p

That's weird. The recommended procedure for batteries is to fully/overcharge on first charge. if your first charge is inadequate does that affect the battery life?
