Axim-Dell DJ connecting with wm '05

I have an axim x51 (wm 2005) and a second generation dell dj 20. Does anyone know of a way in which I could, using DELL DJ Explorer, have the two work in unison? I would like to find a way to use the DJ as a sort of mobile hard drive for the axim.

Sorry, but you're out of luck. It's impossible to connect the Axim with the Dell DJ 20. The Axim series of PDA's does not have USB host functionality built-in. You can add USB host functionality with a Ratoc or Twin Paradox SolarExpress CompactFlash adapter. While most external hard/flash drives would work if you had an adapter card, the Dell DJ 20 wouldn't since it has a proprietary protocol. To even get it to show up as a drive in XP, you have to install a special driver!

Anyways, for the same price as a USB host adapter, you might as well get a 16GB CompactFlash card and not worry about toting an extra drive. If you really need access to tens or hundreds of GB of data from your Axim, get a WiFi enclosure. Hope this helps :-).

I've got an x51v & a DJ30. If you want dj30 to appear as a drive simply don't install the software it came with. XP supports it. This way both can see eachother via explorer.

The DJ30 is 2nd generation. One of the differences is MTP support--i.e. as you mentioned, you can mount as a external drive in XP. Rockyn's DJ20, however, is 1st generation. Unfortunately, for 1st generation DJ's, there is no way to mount it as a drive. Again, I think the best bet is to get a 16gb CF card--they're like $110 at newegg now.

Doh you're right. I stand corrected :-). Wow, so you have your DJ20 connected to your Axim via a USB host card?
