Windows Mobile My Documents as default?
Hello all,
I just active synched my Word 2000 documents to my Dell Axim x51v Windows Mobile 5.0 and later looked for a file I had just saved in my computer, in a folder in My Documents. It wasn't there, and didn't show up in the Word File menu either. (Windows 5.0 uses Word 2003 as you know.) I use Power Desk which has a great search function and found it in the Windows Mobile My Documents folder (which has actually assigned itself under my husband's name but he never uses this computer---???) What a hassle this will be if I have to copy to and move to My Documents on the computer each time. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks in advance, Britta (no PDA to show, sorry)

When you sync files to your pocket pc, ActiveSync creates a separate My Documents folder and names it something like "Julie My Documents," where Julie is the Device ID of the Pocket PC. This folder can be found within your main My Documents folder on your computer, so the path to this information will look something like this:
\My Documents\Julie My Documents If the My Documents folder Active Sync created on your computer was created under your Husband's name, it sounds like you have two different logins on that computer, and you were logged in under your Husband's name. Since your husband does not use that computer, why not delete his login, delete the My Documents folder that was created, and try doing this again?

Thanks very much Julie. I don't know...I think my husband was set up as a User years ago when I got this PC (I didn't know the ropes then) because my email program is in HIS name in the C drive. Drat. I have to open the current Eudora program thru a back door by going to Firefox first and clicking on an address in any discussion group or wherever and then it comes up nicely. So I am afraid to tinker with his User name until I can get some help directly with this entire set up. (Eudora won't open from its own shortcut, can't open because of attachment, I've had tech support and followed their guidelines but still no use.)
I thought it might be some glitch in setting up Windows Mobile which has Word 2002 and I have Word 2000 so that WM wanted to keep any new Word docs in the WM Folder under my husband's name. I saved the docs to the regular folder in MY Docs. Well, onwards, I'll investigate the User names. Thanks very much. Britta (Thanks for your PDA description and software list, oh am I confused about what to buy!)

I just uninstalled Office again as it took over my Eudora default even though I configured it in both Office and Eudora and couldn't access Eudora at all (as I have to go thru a devious way to get at it).
Is the Dell Axim any use without Windows Office? I do not want to use Office as I am not up to reinstalling all contacts etc. from Eudora because of all the volunteer work I do on email and send out to lists. I'm mostly at home and don't need Office. But, is there a replacement as a PIM, not to augment WM Office but as a replacement for Calendar, etc. which would work without the Windows Mobile underpinning? I am not sure I shall invest all the money in this handheld after all but I do love it. It's just a hassle to fight Office and the way it poured my docs into the WM folder rather than where I was saving them. Last night after looking at Office again (fatal mistake) I noticed I couldn't right click and send attachments thru Eudora, Office took that over too. But I could go into Eudora and attach them there of course. However, this morning I couldn't open Eudora at all, fatal exception, etc. etc. even though I had reconfigured all defaults. Sorry to be at such length. Kind of discouraged. Britta

I used to use Eudora. It is easy enough to export Eudora contacts to a CSV file and then import this file into Outlook. I did this recently when I got my husband set up on Outlook with all his Eudora contacts.
There are plenty of things you can do with a pocket pc if you don't want to use it as an organizer. See this article for some ideas: http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/v...e&articleid=81 There really is not replacement application that will allow you to sync contacts, appointment, tasks data to the pocket pc. I think I saw a third party app some time ago that may sync to Eudora. You could perform a google search and see if anything comes up.
