In an effort to conserve battery power, I do not want to use Reminders on my handheld (Axim X51v), but I still want them on my PC. I went to Settings --> Sounds and Notifications --> Notifications, chose Reminders from the drop-down list, and unchecked all options (Play sound, Display message on screen, Flash light for...). I created a dummy appointment in Outlook, set a reminder to go off in a couple of minutes, synced my device, then took it out of the cradle, shut it off, and set it down. Sure enough, at the designated time, the screen came on and the reminder popped up. If this is not what "Display message on screen" refers to, then what is that option? Is there anyway to completely disable reminders on the handheld but still use them on the desktop?

Have you checked to see if your notification settings are still set to not show any notifications on the pocket pc? Sometimes after you make such changes, you need to perform a soft reset to get the new settings saved to the pocket pc's registry.

I did a soft reset, and checked to make sure the notification settings were all still unchecked. They were. Created another test apointment and turned off the PPC. The notification still appeared on the screen. What the?

Could this be an Axim thing? I have turned off the notifications on my Ipaqs and I don't see them any more.

I believe I am still getting notifications on my desktop computer, but let me run a few tests so I can confirm with certainty this is true. I'll post back later tonight or tomorrow.

In Outlook on my computer, I created an appointment that included a notification 5 minutes prior to the appointment time. Then I synced three of my Pocket PCs. Here are the results:
IPAQ hx2415 (running windows mobile 2003se) Turned off all notifications; when the calendar item notification was triggered, the screen came on, but no tones were sounded
IPAQ hw6925 (running WM5.0) Turned off all notifications; when the calendar item notification was triggered, the screen came on. Then I looked over the settings in PhoneAlarm (a software I have installed to manage a lot of stuff on my phone), found that the notification settings there were set to display. When I turned those off, nothing happened with the notification was triggered - the pocket pc remained off.
IPAQ rx1955 (running WM5.0) Turned off all notifications; when the calendar item notification was triggered, the screen remained dark, the pocket pc remained off.
So it seems the only pocket pc I have that still continues to display notifications even after turning everything off is my hx2415. I'll have to play around with that one some more and see if I can figure anything out.

This is probably asking too much, but it would be super neato if there were away to selectively choose to have a reminder on your handheld or your desktop or both. There may be some cases where I want a reminder on my handheld, but most of the time I don't. And there are plenty of times I want the reminder only on the desktop. Of course if I ever am able to successfully disable handheld reminders, I wouldn't be able to do that.
I'll have to go over the settings in my Axim with a fine tooth comb to see if I missed anything.

Since I have 4 pocket pcs, when notifications were turned on things were beeping and lighting up all the time. It was very annoying and I have one of my pocket pcs set up to not turn off automatically, so that one stayed on until I noticed.
I found the notifications on my computer were annoying too, so for the most part, I create appointments and tasks with no notifications. If I make it a habit to regularly review Outlook, there's really no reason to have notifications firing off all the time. If there is something I want to be reminded of, I'll just set a one time alarm for myself - I use spbTime for that.

A good strategy. For the most part, I find I don't use too many reminders on the desktop, either. But every now and then I want to be reminded of an appointment at work or be reminded to pay a bill. I'm bad with that sometimes.

Well for all the tricks we have available, i'm surprised we can't fine-tune these settings even more. I want my notifications, but i only want to be notified ONCE. My Tilt keeps singing until i say Dismiss or view. I HATE THAT. I'd love to find a setting for Notify Once, Twice, Three times, or DON'T BOTHER ME....I'M EATING. Somebody send up a flair when they solve this. I gotta go.....my notifications on all my devices are yelling at me......
