mp3 text message notification sound?

I'm trying to select a mp3 to play when I recieve a text message, but it seems I can only select set wm5 sounds (I can add mp3s and select then no problem for voice calls but not for text messages).

Does anyone know if there is a work around or perhaps another program I can use?

notifications are WAV files

there are 3rd party progs, but simplest thing to do is convert the mp3 to wav using Audacity on the PC (or similar app)
