Please inform my cluelessness
Hi,
After being without a PDA for about a year and a half, I'm finally getting back in, and have just purchased Danfo's rig: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/class...ny-extras.html - an X50v, which is running WM2003. I've read a lot of stuff on here about people hating WM5 and wanting to "downgrade" back to WM2003, but many of these posts are a couple of years old. Here's my question - is it still a bad idea to upgrade an X50v to WM5, or have the bugs now been worked out? If I stick with WM2003 will I have trouble finding good software for it? Forgive me if there's a recent exhaustive thread about this, but I haven't found one. Thanks for any insight! Dave

The X50V is a fine PDA. Better with WM2003SE than WM5, actually. You'll not have problems finding software for it; most products still support WM2003SE. A few (Sprite Backup, notably) have separate licenses, but most just install a different .cab depending on which PDA OS is being targeted.
I recently went to a X51V running WM5 from a X50V running WM2003SE myself, but would not have had the sync connector on the X50V itself not had a physical mechanical problem that was annoying me. Enjoy!

If you stay at 2003se (and there are some good reasons to do so) then you should be ok for software. Apart from some Utiliy programs and some Medical stuff most people would struggle to list a dozen programs that are wm5 only...
If you do go to wm5... then you should do a bit of reading. This thread would be a good start http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x...50v-story.html

Thanks so much for the help, guys. Wow - THUD's thread is interesting reading. Think I'll just stick with WM2003SE. By the way, my new axim and accessories arrived in yesterday's mail!! I'm having fun already getting it all set up.

I have several pocket pcs - two of them run WM5.0. The one that I prefer to use the most is my windows mobile 2003 se pocket pc. I have not had any problems getting software for it and it works great.
Enjoy! | |||||||||||
