Assigning IP on WM6
Is there any way to assign IP Address and DNS to WM6 instead of using DHCP? On our home network, we have static IP, WEP and custom DNS address, of course it is impossible to connect to that network with WM6 Standard. (Ex Smartphone edition)

why dont you use dhcp? either way, you do things the same as you used to... in the list of network adapters you can select the wifi adapter (for example) and apply a static address... or if your router supports it, assign a static address to the mac address of your device to make things easier

Yeah, I just feel it is another added security when I don't use DHCP (since I use irregular IP block). Sure I can just turn it on, and keep everything with assigned IP while DHCP is active in the background, but it would be great if we could assign IP address in WM6 setup.

As jdigitL said, you should be able to assign static IPs the same way as it is done in WM5. Go start, settings, Connections (tab), Network cards. If WiFi is on, select the Network adapters tab and tap on the wireless adapter name. Select 'Use specific IP address: and enter the info in the fields. You may also need to fill in the info in the Name Servers (tab).

The phone edition does not allow assigning static IP addresses.

ahhh... well in that case, you need a router that supports static ip address reservations...

You could set the DHCP range on the router to just allow one IP and use the MAC address to reserve it for your mobile device. I think the range may need to include the static devices, too.

I am not sure, I think the range can be just 2 IPs, but statics may still be able to use their own within same block. I will try this today. Linksys router does not allow Mac=IP matching.

Just did a little searching on the phone, and found out that hidden in the advanced settings, under wifi connection status, we can assign IP address, input subnet and gateway!
