The only one I recognize is Wis Bar. Can anyone identify the rest of these? If there's one you know, speak up! Can I do without any of them? If so, how do I disable them? I am most curious about gwes, since it is over 5MB, and plasma.
If I add up the total memory these services use, it comes to just over 13MB. Yet the running processes screen tells me that 21.0 MB of 49.5 MB is being used. What happened to the other 7MB?
Finally, is there a way to generally speed up and improve system performance? I find the interface slow at times, such as when opening the Start menu or launching a program or document. I would not expect this to be the case if only 21 MB of memory is being used. That still leaves me with nearly 30 MB free. Any tweeks I should know about?

gwes.exe = GWES loads display drivers, printer drivers, and touch screen drivers.
filesys.exe = compaction algorithm
device.exe = Device driver loader
shell32.exe = ??? Virus usually attack this file on PC. Should not be running. If you delete it you may have to hard reset the device. Part of the PDA OS Kernel I think.
plasma.exe = related to the PDA touch Screen configuration and display.
WisBarAdv3.exe =
wisssystem.exe = s/b Winsystem.exe, Part of the OS startup and functionalities.
services.exe = Part of the OS, Manages the operation of starting and stopping services.
connmgr.exe = Connection Manager functionality.
srvtrust.exe = Security certificates check program.
calupd.exe = Part of the Clock managing and tracking the device time, date associated with the calendar.
Cheers,

Thanks for that! I gather from the descriptions these are all essential and must be running, except for shell32. I am a little confused on your explanation. Could you elaborate? Thanks.

I don't know if any of this will apply to you, but program loaded on the CF card seem to load more slowly for me than ones on the SD card or in internal memory. I have also noticed that any icons visible in your start menu that are for programs on the CF or SD card will cause the start menu to load more slowly. If you can find a way to disable the recent program listing, and remove anything from the quick start area that isn't located on the built in memory.
Once I stopped using the little quick launch section and got rid of the recent programs list, my start menu loads very quickly.

plasma.exe
wisssystem.exe
wisBarAdv3.exe
Are components of Wisbar Advance 3.
Wissystem is only active if your using process viewer builtin to WA3.
If you really want to speed up your device I suggest using the A17 ROM it's significantly faster than the stock A12 ROM from Dell. :approve:

HP IPAQ 211: WAD, WA, PocketPlus, PocketWeather, MemMaid, Pocketmusic, etc.
Ok. Let's back up a few steps. Thank you for that link. But there is so much there that I don't understand. I have so many questions, but I'm not gonna ask them here. Is there an idiot's guide to ROM's somewhere on this site? I mean, I need to start from the very beginning here, people.
Thanks.
