WM5 and 128MB RAM Upgrade from PocketPCTechs
For those who have upgraded their 4700/4705 to 128MB of RAM (or are considering it), and are wondering if the WM5 upgrade will be compatible, here is my email to and reply from PocketPCTechs.
My email to PPCTechs:I upgraded my 4700 earlier this year to 128MB RAM. Do you know if the new MS Mobile operating system coming out later this summer will support your upgrade (with or without any of your proprietary drivers)? HP plans on offering an upgrade, but before purchasing (or before getting excited about purchsing) I wanted to make sure I could install it without any issues with the RAM upgrade.
Reply from Loyd: "Hi Michael. The upgrade on the 4700 does not need any drivers. The unit OS supports the extra memory. When the new OS is released, it should support the memory as well.
Thanks
Loyd "
Not a 100% guarantee, but it does help confirm my hypothesis.

I guess we'll find out when you get the OS, right? Of course I'm sure that once it does come out, if it happend to need drivers, PPCtechs will put them out quickly. lol

Hi Driftless. I have infinitely more confidence in PPCTechs than in MS/HP for releasing drivers and fixes. They have been first class in every respect. I just don't want to find out I need one in the MIDDLE of the OS upgrade installation.:)

:) Didn't realize I was that incognito prior to this message. Oh well, I guess that secret organization I work for will either disavow any knowledge of me or "erase" all I've come in contact with...

I'm running this 128mb ram update, and love it... the hx4700 works so much more smoothy when loaded up with apps...

At the PocketPCTechs website, they have indicated that the maximum upgrade they can offer is 128mb. Something about the chipset not allowing "stacking" so 128mb is the max...
"This unit uses low voltage hi-speed BGA memory, so stacking is not available and 128MB will be the maximum capacity."

It is not safe to assume anything. At least that's been my experience.
PPCtechs does not list the device but they usggest you contact them if it is not lised.
