Can WM5 sync using AS3.8

Like the title says....

I was wondering if I could uninstall and reinstall AS3.8 and still sync my newly upgraded WM5 hx2415?

WM5 devices actually show up as a new network connection, so it is my understanding that they sync in a completely different way than 2003 devices do. I know that ActiveSync 4.0 looks the same as 3.8 when I sync a 2003 device, but changes its appearance when syncing with a WM5 device.

Microsoft states WM5 devices require AS4.x.
