Windows Media workaround??

Has anyone found a reasonable workaround for the inability to program hard buttons in Windows Media 10? I have volume programmed to the joystick control, and the enter button as screen on and screen off....but would much prefer some of these buttons be on hard buttons as well as stop/pause/on be assigned as well, but cannot figure out a way to assign the buttons. I have even tried unassigning the basic functions in windows and this does not help.

I would be interested in this as well. (Also the screen toggle does not stay off)

I have the same problem and I find it so annoying. In addition the screen toggle works, but the screen comes back on when the next song plays. Has anyone found a way to fix these problems? Or is there a better player out there?

What I have started doing is, I turn off the backlight when using WMP (I am sure this will be fixed by MS in a SP or update *the early versions of WM2003 had the same issue*)
