Can't connect

I went to Add/Remove programs, but clicked the wrong line. I ended up removing the Odyssey Client. This was a particularly stupid mistake, because Odyssey Client controls internet connections. I re-installed it from the CD-ROM, but now I can't connect to the Internet.

If I go to the Wireless button, the Manager sees my network but won't connect to it. The Connection settings allow me to configure the WiFI card to use DHCP. But the PIE Internet connections do not provide an option to use the WiFi card.

Does anybody know how to re-establish the connection?

HP support just wants you to do a cold reset. I can't believe this is the only way to solve this problem.

Are you getting an IP from your router?

If so, make sure both dropdown list in the connection settings are the same: in the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks and select "My Work Network" from both of the pull down lists. If you then tap the Edit... button under either list and the Proxy Settings (tab), the top box (This network connects to the Internet) should be checked but leave everything else on this page blank. After tapping OK, make sure both dropdown lists are still set to My Work Network and OK your way back to the Today page and then soft reset.

Ike,

Thanks. I made the changes you suggested, and ... nothing. So then I started thinking about your first Q - was I getting an IP address? :nw: I found the IP address, and it was an impossible number (the first number was 4 hex digits, etc). So I set a fixed IP address to be the same as my lappy. After a soft reset, Odyssey beeped, and I saw the Odyssey icon to the left of the radio icon on the Today screen. Clicking that let me select my wireless AP by SSID. A few more clicks, then back to the WiFi adaptor to go back to DHCP, and voila - I was on IPAQ HQ with my PDA. Very, very nice! :D

I think forcing the IP address woke up something in the Odyssey client that gave me access I hadn't had before.

BTW - I like your WiFi intro and FAQ. If you ever decide to update the FAQ, under security, you should probably make changing tne admin password the very first item. For those users who set and admin password and then forget it, most APs have some kind of a switch that resets everything to factory default, including the admin password. Not that I have ever needed it, but I do generall ready the manuals, and I thought this was a particularly good idea.
