uninstalling preinstalled versions of WM5?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if there is a way that WM5 can be uninstalled from Pocket PC devices without voiding warranty or creating any other issues?

The reason I ask this is because the company I work for has developed software to run on Windows Mobile 2003 but our provider, HP, only sells devices with WM5 preinstalled.

The costs that would be associated with updating the code to work with WM5 would be high.

Thanks for any advice.

I think you should contact HP on this one, as they are the ones that you hold the warranty with, but my guess is that they will say that any modification to the O/S will invalidate the warranty.

Greetings,
The WM2003SE versions of the hx2xxx series iPAQ's are still available from HP and some retailers. The HP website can be a bit vauge but if you check, the hx21xx/24xx units are still there and have the option of WM5 via an upgrade but still run on WM2003 out of the box.

Thanks for the advice.
I live in Australia, so unfortunately for me the hx2xxx series iPAQs are only available as hx2790 which only comes in the WM5 variety. We had already ordered hx2750 with WM2003SE on them but after waiting for 4 weeks for our delivery we were told they were now end of life and had to purchase the hx2790. All this after HP confirmed that they would not be end of life until March '06 :realmad:
Looks like we might have to bite the bullet and pay the thousands of extra dollars to get the software to work with WM5 :bang:

OR...
You could do what I did.

I had a problen with my 2790 battery discharging. I rang HP and they said they would collect it and sort it out. After having the unit for almost 2 weeks it arrived back this morning with WM2003 on it instead of the WM2005 it had originally!

They are now going to sort it out but I will probably be without it for another 2 weeks

Sorry to hear that, Are you tied to buying only from HP or could you buy from a VAR like www.Mobileplanet.com who is now owned by Expansys in the UK if I recall correctly?

Good Luck

We basically have to buy through HP as they are the approved supplier for computer related hardware.
We actually managed to get them to put some hx2750's on hold which have WM2003SE installed on them. The software team has been able to get the software working on an evaluation model with only a couple days of modification so we are in the process of purchasing the other 17 that we need.

Thanks for all your help guys.
