Hi there,
I have an hx2410 as well. I recently got my promotional WM5 upgrade CD from HP and I decided to upgrade from Win2K3SE. It would be a waste if I just put it aside so I decided to try it out. Although I've read many negative reviews (posted some myself based on other's opinion), I'm pretty cool with it. Speed is obviously an issue and tweaking the registry will make it run slightly better. However, musics and movies still plays fine and I have no problem with it. You must remember that once you upgraded to WM5, iPAQ File Store will disappear. In exchange, your files are safe even when your battery discharges completely. In my opinion, it's a fair trade-off.
I don't remember the amount of memory left for me to install. However, I have an SD card. I installed almost everything to it. Upon installation, WM5 will ask you where you'd like to install your program once it has been transfered from PC using ActiveSync. Sometimes, it'll install a little bit into the device's memory and some into the external storage device.
Battery tends to run out faster using WM5 for some reasons, but as stated before, you don't have to worry about resinstalling everything as they are unaffected. I recharge my PDA almost every 2 days even when I don't have to. It's a question of habit as I do this with all my stuff.
If you want to know how much slower your PDA is using WM5, I'd say it's slightly faster than running XP pro on a Pentium 2 350MHz with 192MB RAM. Do note that it's only the loading time that's slow. The application execution isn't slow at all from my point of view.
I create my own PPC theme and they were made for Win2K3SE. I ported them to WM5 and still works great.
What I would suggest to you is to back up all information and files that are on your PDA and upgrade it to WM5 and test it for about a week or so. I think I'll keep running WM5 because I'm pretty satisfied with it.
