Still have battery drain problem: likely suspects?
On my hx2495 I have done the following
1) Stopped the ActiveSync auto start.
2) Turned off the Today TimeOut
3) Removed all battery meters from the Today screen.
I still have a battery drain problem, for example last night it went from 95% to 72% in 8 hours. So I'm looking for other culprits...
How about Pocket Weather? I just noticed that it was set(default) to try to update every 15 mins. I have set that back to 23 hrs 6 mins (seems to be the maximum). All I really need is for it to update automatically on WiFi startup or ActiveSync. It seems that if I disable all auto updates is does not do these two.
How about MagicButton (freebie task switcher)? I recall reading somewhere that it can cause a problem...
Other apps: Pocket Informant, PhatNotes, PhatPad, iGuidance, SunnySoft Backup Manager, SpaceTime, Math Tablet, HiCalc, Opera, SKTools, cTide, Radar Watch 2, SuDoku Rules, and a few little and rarely used GPS utils.
I have set the Backup Manager to manual operation only.
I took iLauncher off as a possible cause...
Any other suggestions? I made sure no tasks were running last night before turning off.
Thanks,
Derek

Try unloading MagicButton, and make sure that PocketWeather is set up either to only update during a restricted timeframe, or else that it doesn't try to autoupdate on connection or similar. Otherwise, disable all your Today applets, see if you have drain issues then, and then reenable them one by one to see which is causing your issue.

I've had it drained twice now, but in my case it drained to 0% within an hour or less. The first time I had MemMaid installed and had it clean my system a few times. I reinstalled WM5.0 cause I had the idea that MemMaid cleaned a little too much for WM5.0's good. Obviously, without MemMaid this time.
The second time I had my battery drained to 0% was when I had removed a whole lot of stuff using Resco File Explorer.
Eventhough a pda is shut off it does use some power. Having the battery drained from 95% to 72% isn't that bad actually. I can live with that easily. The real problem is when the battery is drained to zero in a really short time and during that proces heats up noticably.
I haven't had a battery drain in a week or 2 now, but then again, I haven't made radical changes to any software or registry either. Perhaps there is a link there somewhere.

You might want to do the full reset (that reformats Flash. Make sure this isn't a hardware problem, then add programs slowly.

Good idea here. Just install programs one-by-one and wait between each programs to see whether or not the newly installed program is the culprit for your mysterious battery drain. :)

Nice method if you have tons of time to await any possible powerdrain. The few times I had my battery drained occured a fair good few days after I installed my software on my pda. This powerdrain issue is most likely a WM5.0 glitch. As far as I have expercienced there is no telling when or if it will happen to your system.
I guess the only solution is to patiently await for HP (or your pda's manufacturer) to come up with a ROM update which fixes the problem.

I haven't followed the iPaq/WM5 issues too closely but with my Dell, the power drain issue (in fact every issue I had with the device which also included a failure to start using the power button) was directly related to having a memory card in place. Not keeping the card (in my case, an sd card) in place when the device was shut down prevented any problems.
Fortunately, I actually haven't had any problems, even though I can now keep the card in the device all the time, since the first ROM upgrade that Dell released (I'm now on the second upgrade, still with no problems).
I actually think it was the fact that I put all programs into main memory after the upgrade and just use the sd card for files. This idea is actually supported somewhat by the fact that many Dell users with the new ROMs are still having problems. I've also limited third party programs to things I consider to be essential until M$, Dell (and, in the case of this forum, HP) get these issues resolved.

Fixed it - by doing a clean reset, and reinstalling all software (except MagicButton). Did all the usual tweaks. Last night, zero battery drain. What's more, the hx2495 is much faster now. Must have had a rogue process lurking in the background.
Thanks...
Derek
