WM5 'Stock' is better than 'upgrading'

This might be a "DUH" thread, but I would say it's pretty obvious by now that there are so many who have tried to 'upgrade' (term used loosely) to WM5 from 2003SE and have gona back that you all should probably not even try it at all...
The way I'm beginning to see it is that WM5 was ment to be on newer 'built-for-it' systems, and not used as an upgrade. There are so many things structurally different about the 'stock' made WM5 rigs than an older one that I would say that has to be a factor with all the upgrading bugs...and from the looks of the posting I'd say thats the case.
There is all kinds of software I can't install on my hx2495 cuz of the WM5 that 2003SE users have been playing with for years.
I have to sympathize with you all for even being tempted by MS to buy WM5 and try it....cuz it would seem to me that they would know perfectly well how much more incompatible it is with older rigs that they wouldn't even offer it till the major bugs are out, or just UPGRADE 2003SE and give that a face lift.

My rig is just fine. But not without tweaking the heck out of it first, which even that kina wigged me out...seeing as it's a new OS and all.

I think there are a lot of Dell Axim x50 users that would happily agree with your assesment. :)

If your device works ... don't mess with it. WM5 adds a couple of good features, but sometimes at too high of a cost in terms of useability.

But you have to admit for someone like say me, who just wants to pick up my PPC and go with it, WM5 is perfect. When I took it out of the box I didn't have to install a today screen moniter (the Memory moniter, Batt moniter etc). Also the way you can for once decide how your own pic looks on the today screen really impressed me, and thus another tool I didn't need to load up.

As for apps though, I have all I need. My Flight sim, Doom, Websters Dictionary, Spanish / English Dictionary, Skype, and Streets 2005.

However I guess that I'm just a happy kid with a shiny new hx2495 to play with.

Cheers
Cameron

I'm not sure about that assessment... Over at pdaphonehome.com, the i730's upgraded to WM5 have felt NONE of the compaction issues or slowdowns and we have been using WM5 for months. I believe it all depends on how well the OEM tweaks the WM5, the version of WM5 (we have AKU 2.2), and the type of Flash ROM.

i have been using wm5 on my x50v for 6mths now. although i admit it is not up to my expectations, i think the new features justify the 'upgrade' for me.

but yeah, as far as the axims are concerned, the x51v which comes with & are made for wm5, works much better. my bro has the x51v and it is noticably faster and more stable.
