Microsoft Reader

I have a new device with WM5, I have installed microsoft reader. I cant get this to activate - it says that I am running an old version of Windows that will not allow activation.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version from the MS website to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Windows Mobile 5.0 devices do not have a file that is needed to activate Microsoft Reader. You can find the file you need in the zip file I have attached to my reply. The zip file contains a file called OEMINFO.xml. Download and unzip the file and copy it to the Windows subdirectory on your PDA. Perform a soft reset ad then try to activate.

Well, I think they know already....it's crazy because if you are ever able to find it, there is an MSReader forum of sorts on Microsoft's website and there are a ton of users there with this problem. There is one partcipant (who appears to work for Microsoft) who seems to be in charge of providing this file, but that person won't post it for everyone - each person has to email the person and request the file and then wait until the Microsoft employee sends the file - seems like too much trouble to me.

MS reader activation

Smartizan:

The problem is a missing OEM file on your device. Write an email to Christine who is a msreader developer at Microsoft describing the model and supplier of your equipment.

She was good enough to email the file and it worked on my treo phone.

Her email address is: msreadergirl@comcast.net

Shaun, I'm not sure that this file will work for your Imate. I'd recommend you contact Christine with the Microsoft Reader team to get the specific file you need and instructions on where it should be installed on your device. You can send an email to her at msreadergirl@comcast.net. Be sure to include a valid email address and the make/model of your device.

Hi Julie

Thanks for the response. I'll give Christine a try.
