Any ideas when Windows Mobile 2005 should be out???

Ive been putting off my first PDA purchase for a while now waiting on the first with VGA screens to be released. Now that they are out Im concerned that they will become obsolete when WM 2005 comes out. Any ideas when it will be out and if an upgrade will be offered with the X50v? Thanks!

It won't become obsolete. When/if Windows 2005 comes out it (the X50) will still work the same as it does today. No self destruct mechanism etc. Everything will still work.

You will eventaully find that developers might stop making software for Windows 2003 based machines, but that's not going to happen with the release of Windows 2005.

If you need a PDA, I'd buy one. The nature of technology is that there is always something better around the corner. No matter when you purchase there is almost always a visible upgrade path.

i am thinking mid 2k5 also...i would think dell would offer an upgrade for the X50v...the X5 got an upgrade to 2k3 over a year after it came out

If dell dose not offer a upgrade there are "other" places you can get a upgrade from

I dont think so...doesnt it have to be specially configured to the device? I.e., an X5 user couldnt pirate 2k3SE if they wanted to (and i dont...)

There have been rumours about using ROMs from other devices but no-ones actually done it.

Nothing more than rumours.

Feel free to risk trashing your device and attempting it though :) Just don't expect it to be covered by warranty.

The killer "machine" is a pocket PC with a battery life of 15 days with wireless enabled... and the ability to take apps from the handheld to the PC (ie able to run any .exe on the handheld that will run on the PC).

I also say Mid 2005. WM 2003 and WM 2003 SE both came out mid year(I think).

It's a ROM for the Himalaya product. It won't work on an Axim. Just like an Axim ROM won't work on an HP.
