Why don't they just sell it. Im sure plenty of people would buy it and they could make money.

Because it might not be compatible with current devices in the first place and they really don't want to have to deal with the extra tech support.

Exactly. A bunch of people in India with an ok grasp of English and a thick binder in front of them with all the answers to the questions you weren't going to ask anyway.

I guess Dell don't offer an upgrade or at least need to pay for it.

However it also depends on the offical release of WM2005, e.g. April or December.

Does anybody know the advantages of this update if it ever is available. What are the pros of this update compared tp 2003?

Hilarious, just hilarious.

I'd think we'd all have learned by now that Dell, HP and everyone else has pretty much dropped the OS upgraded business. And I disagree that the X50v might be upgraded. I think by the time WM2k5 is ready for prime time nobody is going to waste the effort wrestling with a $30 upgrade that half the users whine about not working properly or killing their devices in the process. They've all been burned before. I mean, let's use some common sense here. Most of us had X5 and X3 when WM2k3se was released. That wasn't a major jump in the OS, yet they didn't provide an upgrade to it. Even though you'd JUST BOUGHT one of these. None of us were happy about it, but their business decision was based on return on investment. Just not worth it. Customer service, quite simply, doesn't really matter to them unless you're buying a new device. Just you watch....a few months after Microsoft announces WM2k5 is fully ready to release to the OEMs we'll see announcements of new PocketPCs sporting WM2k5. I will be completely shocked if Dell, in particular, releases any kind of an OS upgrade for existing devices. It's not in their nature, and it goes against the conventional wisdom the manufacturers appear to have adopted. Does that suck? Yep. But I could cut and paste the very comments and questions being asked here and they'd match exactly what happened with WM2k3se. And if an upgrade DID come out, I can promise I can match up all the whining about it being a horrible upgrade to that which appeared after the WM2k3 upgrade.

For anyone looking to buy a new PocketPC, my advice is do NOT go out and buy an X50V or whatever thinking you'll be able to upgrade to WM2k5. Wait for the new devices to come out with it.

I also count on a upgrade of the x50v to be honest;)

jpmarth, the X30 has always had 2003 SE. You may be thinking of the X3/X3i.

Yeah I don't think Dell will offer anything to the X30s market. Why? Because even with constant customer annoyance, they are only after the big bucks. I don't think Dell has ever listened to consumers...

BTW, I don't want to get off the subject but Dell doesn't even care about American jobs. [Hell, nobody cares] Why should they care about our OS's being updated?
