Well, Im sure someone with the new x50v would be able to copy his/her rom and post it, correct?
This is precisely one of the reasons that was cited (on Dell's Forum) for not offering the 2003 SE upgarade, and the discontinuance of the 2003 upgrade for the X5 . . .
Your post strengthens the possibility of an "All or nothing" upgrade" They'll offer it to all X50 users (or strictly for the X50v), or won't offer it at all. This eliminates illicit distribution of ROMs.
I mean, I just bought my x50v yesterday, and now Im mad because of this whole ordeal that it may now be upgraded.
Your kidding right? Well I suppose you could have waited another 6 months and then bought something. What happens when they come out with the new OS next year? Do you get mad about that also?

Lol I guess not. A PPC is a PPC, and it still carries its functions, so worst comes to worst, Ill just buy another one.
In all seriousness, I have 2 questions, 1, how long does it take a 1100mah batt to charge from almost empty to full, and how long, would this handheld last, before becoming completely obsolete. What I mean by that is when approx do you think the EOL is on this.
My Casio (Pocket PC 2000) still runs EXACTLY as it did when I got it. It doesn't care about the release of PPC2002, WM2003 etc. They didn't make it stop working.
I also have an iPAQ in front of me with PPC2002. It still runs fine.
The release of a new OS does not kill the old ones. What will happen is that over time more and more applications will come to rely on the new features of the OS. As things stand today there are still people using PPC 2000 PPCs.

First of all, that's a lot of BS there. Any device capable of running WM2003 can run WM2003SE (ask Microsoft). Dell is just plain cheap (think MC=MR if you anything about economics bfore)
How IGNORANT are you? Do you even read the news, let alone know anything? Dell brought back their support services to the US for you lot of American consumers. And I'm sure your accent is far less comprehensible (not to mention outrageously gaudy) than that of an Indian's considering where you're from.
As for compatibility, I meant WM2005. Also, American consumer tech support was still in India when I called a couple of days ago...honestly, it doesn't matter where it is really, they're still mostly just reading out of a binder so I can honestly say that I know better how to fix my problems than them. As for my ignorance, I didn't realize that was a topic of discussion in the forum. Sounds like I hit a raw nerve...you're not a member of Dell tech support for the US by any chance?

If the x50v can stay on the market for a year more, i think we might have the chance to get the rom upgrade to 2005. Or they might me throwing the x50v away when they have newer device sporting 2005.
That is a great deal and you should get to upgrade to 2005. I think Dell will offer it.
