Widows Mobile 2005 new memory management could give x50v 128mb memory for programs.

If you read this review about a beta windows mobile 2005 http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a...ews&id=601&p=2 you will see that it manages memory differently than 2003SE.
It uses the ram for the operating system and running applications. and the rom for files and programs. At least to my understanding.
Considering that it could be true, and that the x50v might get the upgrade, that could add a little more potential to the device.

Just thought I would would share what might come

Dell X50v with BT LG325, Belkin GPS, 1GB 60x Kingmax SD, 1GB Lexar 32x CF, 512MB Lexar SD and 256MB Lexar SD, I wish they would'nt release these so often. Every time a new one comes out I make sure I get it!!!

While it would be fantastic if it were true, I haven't heard anyone else who had used the beta mention the same thing. And the screenshots of the memory usage don't support the claim since it clearly shows part of "main" memory as being used for storage, unless it means the flash part. Once I see that one can move the memory usage slider so that memory usage for storage is zero, then I would be convinced.

Palms are moving to this split memory configuration (NVFS) with some of their recent devices and I see no reason PPC can't do it.

Heck, PCs have been doing it practically forever!

I believe you're slightly mistaken. The rumour is that RAM will be used for running programs, while all storage (apps, files, OS) will be ROM. This means that a "hard reset" would be no different than a "soft reset" is now.

End of the day: more RAM available to run programs, and 3rd-party app providers had better ALL get used to being installed to "built-in storage".

No one knows yet. Anything you hear is idle speculation!

If it is this way then anoter option will be available to delete everything from memory so the unit is as received from the manufacturer after a hard reset. All data to be kept will have to go to a storage card. The ROM will have to be split so hard reset doesn't delete the OS.
