I bought a 2003SE unit and that is what I got. I only expect ROM updates as needed. Dell built a VGA unit unfortunately the os doesn't support it, but many third party programs do. The video issue you mentioned could be addressed with a ROM update and not a OS upgrade.

I don't know why people are so passionate they the deserve a OS upgrade. Never heard of people expecting a OS upgrade for thier pc's when the new windows comes out. You can purchase it but pc os upgrades are much simpler then ppc upgrades.

Actually the OS does support a VGA device. Just because it doesn't work the way some people think it should doesn't mean it is not supported.

Why should I not be passionate? I'm not expecting free but my device is upgradable. Why not use that functionality?

Both Dell and HP refused to offer 2003SE updates last year (even after petitions were presented). Since Asus and Toshiba offered the SE update (or at least announced that they would), I consider Dell and HP to have poor customer service.

Your right. But who would be responsible for the upgrade. MS would benifit from selling a upgrage but the way PPC are set up now I doubt they could/would do it. Dell has little reason to as it would cut into there sales of 2005 units and would require some R&D investment. Until ppc are more like pc's (I mean we install all the dell stuff (switcher bar, wlan, ect.) separate from the os we are out of luck... unless like I said if Dell offers the x50v with w2005 (which is a possibility)

But I would be delighted to be proved wrong !
The SE update was provided at NO COST to all PDA makers. Dell didnt release a free update though since it would cost them money to do so.

The 2005 is another issue; it depends if Microsoft is charging Dell for it. If Microsoft does charge Dell for it, then expect NO FREE UPGRADES (doubt if a paying solution will be implemented; look what happened to those who wanted to upgrade from WM2002 to WM2003)

In the case of upgrading WM2003 to WM2003, PEOPLE SHOULD BE FLAMING WITH ANGER with Dell's actions- it's like Dell withholding the Win XP SP1 and SP 2 update for your Dell PC (And yes, you CANNOT just update your XP to SP1 and SP2 since Microsoft has given SP1 and SP2 to Dell to customize it for your Dell Dimension). NOTE: It's a comparision. We get XP Sp1 and SP2 since computers were standardised, unlike the PocketPCs of today.

But on the issue of WM 2005, that is a DIFFERENT ISSUE. If Microsoft charges Dell for the upgrade, then my bet is that there wont b a FREE UPGRADE (or none at all, considering Dell's track record)
