Will WM2k5 build on all the ROM updates?

Hi, I have an "engineering model" X50v that has the X15 ROM version, so I haven't been able to install the ROM updates (whole story in itself!) so I was wandering, when Dell's Windows Mobile 2005 for the X50v comes out, will it "include" all the ROM updtate features such as improved screen sensitivity? Or is the opperating system something that just stacks on top of the ROMs? Thanks!

I have seen no word from Dell that there will be a 2005 upgrade to begin with, so I wouldn't assume one will be available (though it would be nice).

A new OS would replace everything, hard to say how particular features or components would behave, but it would be a blank canvas.

The people who have production axims have no idea if they are getting WM2005...

In fact nobody knows for sure if it is possible (except those who do and they ain't telling)

So, I'm affraid, all you can do is wait....

But if you cannot install the current series of updates, I'd assume that should a WM2005 update become available you will not be able to install that either. It would have version tracking in it too.

I'm not sure; I hope not though. The problem when I try and install the ROM updates is that my computer recognizes my X15 ROM as newer than the A02 update and tells me that I "can't downgrade opperating systems". Someone told me that my computer would probably recognize WM3k5 as "much newer" than the X15 ROM. I hope he's right!

Yes, I imagine that Windows Mobile 3005 would be quite newer. However, I definitely don't believe that Dell will be supporting the x50v at that time.

There is a hacked A02 update installer out there used to flash non-english A01 devices to the English A02 update. Maybe you could give it a try?

Isn't there a way to convince the installer that you need to restore from a backup image? If that is the case, then perhaps you can get somebody else's A02 backup file and then "backup"/upgrade your device, so that it is finally on the radar...

David,

Not fair, you need to share this secret. If it is true you can update an X15 ROM to A0x, I know a few people would be more than interested!!!
