I certainly do not feel that it is a violation of rights to not provide an upgrade. A precedent had been established in the pocket pc industry by HP, Dell, and the others to provide upgrades. Therefore, an upgrade to future OS's is expected. MY original point was that since Dell and HP did not follow through last time, it is very doubtful that WM 2005 will be provided as an upgrade.

My response to that post was that it was doubtful that it would happen because of the fact that we were screwed over last year when WM 2003SE came out. The Ipaq has been around for several years and I believe they were provided upgrades from 2000 to 2002 and then from 2002 to 2003. Dell continued the tradition providing the OS upgrade from 2002 to 2003 as well. Asus and Toshiba announced last year that they would provide upgrades to 2003SE but I do not know if they ever followed through. I do know that Fujitsu Siemens recently made a 2003SE upgrade available. Clearly, there was (and still is with Fujitsu) an established practice in the pocket pc industry of providing OS upgrades. Until Dell and HP announce their intentions with WM2005, we are spinning our wheels and waisting our time.

Well, Toshiba definetly provided it.
So far I have seen no direct evidence that Dell will or will not provide the update. Until then all everyone is doing is speculating. I hope the do and I think they will for the X50v. However, I won't be crushed if they don't because my device will still work just fine.

Well they only did so because of VGA support. They had not offered upgrades in the past to WM 2003, but they really had to at this time.

So? The point is that they did. Perhaps Dell will be in the same boat for 2005 and the X50v.

Who cares about WM2005?! That is so like yesterday!
What I wanna know is will I get a free upgrade to Longhorn Mobile in 2007.
