Dell has lied before. I'll believe it when the first X50 owner with a bona fide upgrade CD executes a successful upgrade. As for me, I'll hold out for a new PocketPC with new hardware (most like not a Dell).
They claimed both by phone and by their own forums that an upgrade from WM2003 to WM2003se was being worked. Then they backed out. Though I'm immensely happy with the X5, I've seen way too many complaints about various issues with the X50 to make me want to jump on a nearly year old device that MIGHT actually see a buggy upgrade. I'd rather A) wait for a decent manufacturer to come out with new hardware with WM2k5 on it or, better yet B) wait until Photon/WM2006 comes out on new devices next year. The only thing my X5 won't do right now is VGA, and I'm not missing anything with that--movies still look great on it.
Dell Axim X50 customers will be able to purchase the upgrade, expected to ship during the third quarter, on compact disc. Microsoft Corp. previewed the next-generation mobile software today at its annual Mobile & Embedded DevCon (MEDC) 2005 in Las Vegas.

So I guess X30s won't be in line for support

Well, since some people have the CompleteCare warranty from Dell, wouldn't it be easier to drop their PocketPC w/WM2003 and get a new replacement with the Mobile 5 OS installed instead of buying an upgrade? Wouldn't that be easier, after all, isn't that why people pay more to have Dell's CompleteCare warranty?
Ahhh, noooo, you get a brand new replacement within your first 21 or 30 days, after that, it's a refurb. Please prove me otherwise if I'm wrong on this one . . . Advance Exchange is simply having them overnight you a replacement, that's all.
