I believe they're referring to IDE microdrives.
Before WM5, microdrives had to be CF interface.
With WM5, microdrives can now be IDE interface.

Wasn't sure where to place this since so many talk about the OS upgrade, but I asked my rep at Dell and after he forwarded it, this is the answer I received.

Thought it may be interesting to some of you other Axim-junkies.

Subject: RE: Dell OS UPgrade

Morning ********,

Do you know anything about this Axim upgrade from Win2003SE to Win2005?

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topi...us&l=en&s=corp

It says that Dell is going to offer it's customer's an upgrade to the new OS. Just wondering if you heard about it, when it may be available, and cost. Can I even buy it now?

DELL ANSWER:

Yes. We are launching the Axim X51 in the fall which will have the new MS OS. It will also be available for a purchase upgrade on the X50 at the same time, for users who have recently purchased and want the new OS. (It will not be available as a purchase upgrade on the X30).

It was mentioned in another thread in the New Products forum by someone who claims to work as a laptop tech for Dell. He also mentioned 2 other models as well, x60 and x70, and a codename for the x60 (RUTH) but nothing else.

While we are laughing at names maybe the will go to different letters for the PDAs (X??) vs SmartPhones (Y??) vs MediaCentres (Z??)...

Sorry, couldn't resist

Oh and thanks for the list - I hope WM5 actually delivers without too many bugs... optimistic right?

Cheers

Well Keitherlyn, if that's the first anyone has heard of the X51, then I guess it is. I was more curious about getting information on this OS upgrade from Dell, but that was her response to me.

So it sounds like a new PDA is coming out in the fall.... and very possible, that's when we'll be able to get a handle on the new OS for our x50's.

I'm not really liking that "for users who have recently purchased and want the new OS" bit... What about users who have not recently purchased? Is there gonna be some silent hardware change in the X50s for WM5 compatibility that older models won't have or something?

Dell has already announced that they will be providing WM5 for X50 users.
They didn't specify anything about having to be a recent purchaser.

A few questions. At this reviewing site, mobil-review.com they talk about the differences in excel and word. For those of you who have the alternative programs, TextMaker and PlanMaker, which export formats, etc, how would you compare what you have now with what the review site says of the new version?

Also at that site they show pics of a phone dialer and say it comes standard with both the old and the new. They are not trying to tell me that my Axim comes standard with such a dialer, are they??? If it does, it is the best kept secret!
