Looks like there will be a market for a full feature active sync replacement. Just like a better pie the 3rd party developers will step in and take over.
This surprises me as you would think that corporate users would like to sync there email when in other parts of the office or warehouse?
maby they could supprise us and make bluetooth faster than it ever was making the missing wifi a little less painfull lol. If not well then i hope its not gone aswell. I would doubt they would remove the most populay ability of anyhing in todays tech market (WIFI)

Actually, in looking at the Activesync app, it has a wireless scheduling subset... In Help, it clearly states:
Quote:
You can set up your device to synchronize with Exchange Server over a wireless network or through a cable, cradle, infrared, or Bluetooth connection to a PC.
It also says:
Quote:
When the device is connected to a wireless network and not connected directly to a PC, you can schedule wireless synchronization to occur automatically at regular intervals.
So I don't see how you couldn't use it... Maybe I'm missing something..

Where is the 'better' PIE alternative? Netfront is far from perfect (VGA and reports of crashes on buy.com) and multi IE doesn't do it for me. Minimo is probably years from being fully functional.
IMO if MS doesn't get it right, nobody will. The Pocket PC market is just too darn small for any serious 3rd party development. (And redesigning ActiveSync would be a non-trivial activity.)

Yes, this should happen next year with the release of the BT 2.0 spec, especially now they are teaming up with the WiMax people, but .... this means you'll need new hardware

:realmad: I really did not know that MS was going to remove Wi-fi Activesync in 2005. That sucks, really sucks big time. :realmad: Why would they remove a good feature that is useful to so many people??
My home laptop has Wi-fi but no BT, so I use wi-fi to sync at home. My work PC does not have wifi, so I use the USB cradle at work. Now if they remove Wifi sync then I have to buy another cable or buy a BT dongle for sync using BT. Too much hassle...
Folks
the key issue here is not where or not WIFI has been removed in AS 4.0
It has, there is no question on this.
The key issue is whether or not WM5 DEMANDS the use of AS4.0 or if you can continue to use AS 3.8 while using WM5.
That is the issue that we need to resolve.
