I have an axim x50v and was excited to find out that we would get the upgrade to windows mobile 5.0. That is until I went to the microsoft site and found that we have to purchase the upgrade cd. Did I read this wrong, because I was really hoping that I could get it for free.
Nope.. its like when you upgraded from windows 98 to windows xp.. you had to buy an upgrade. Now the interesting question is in the pricing details, but Dell hasn't announced that part of the deal yet

Yes, this has been discussed many many many times before. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY! We all currently know this. Try reading the front page threads.
What we currently don't know is how much it will cost...
That completely took the wind out of my sails. I don't know why I thought we would be getting a free upgrade. So how much do you guys think it will cost? This is my first PPC so I haven't had to upgrade the opperating system yet.
EDIT: I'm sorry Tancerman, I've been on this site a lot today and even though I read all the info, I still didn't know. Guess that bit of information slipped by me. Didn't mean to offend anyone.
I really have no idea what the pricing will cost. I'm guessing $40 but thats based on no information at all. Think of a number and write it down and that will be just as good a guess. Don't worry about it though. We still have a good few months to enjoy WM2003SE before the upgrade ships.

You also don't "have to" upgrade. Do you use Wifi syncing?

Other than free, how much do you think is reasonable to pay?
Is a very good question. It depends on how much value is going to be in WM5, If it was only a few cosmetic tweaks then $5 may be overpriced. If it really does make a (positive) difference in terms of speed and usability thn $50 may be a bargain. We'll just have to wait and see how many bangs you get for your buck

Even if it is, that's illegal... so you at least won't be seeing any links posted around here. Is it really THAT big of a deal to pay $30 or so for an upgrade? I mean you likely paid $300 - $400 (or more) for your PDA anyhow, so what's $30? Nobody is forcing you to upgrade to the new OS. If you want it, buy it and install it. Otherwise, you should just do without it....
