Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5.0 on X50v

Hi guys. we must pay for Windws Mobile 5.0 because of the liscense fee from Microsoft.... So we could all use wm5.0 legitimitely.

What about those who purchase X50 with WM 5.0 preinstalled, do they have to pay the liscense fee if some of them decide to use wm2003se instead? I mean, our purchase cost included the wm2003se liscense fee, but then those who purchase the x50 with wm5.0 never paid for the wm2003se liscense fee, why they get to use it without paying any fee???

I see us who purchase wm5.0 liscense and also have wm2003 liscense switch around O.Ss, but don't you think the people has their x50 with wm5.0 preinstalled shoulnd't have our wm2003 ROMs?

Some MS operating systems grant you 'downgrade' rights which allows you to use a previous version. Until somebody gets a look at the license agreement we won't know for sure

Dell offer new purchasers the free upgrade as an incentive to buy the X50v now instead of waiting a few months. This was done in order to limit competition from forthcoming WM2005 devices and also keep competitive with the HP devices (also offering the free upgrade). The cost of both licences (2003se and 2005) is a factor in Dell's current pricing structure and even though it appears to be "free" customers are really only getting what they pay for.

I have just ordered an X50v and spoke to Dell in the UK and they know nothing of a free upgrade to WM 5. Can someone please let me know if this a free upgrade and which department I should speak to?

Its a promotion that Dell USA are doing... don't think we get it. (we get to buy the upgrade once it's released)

Well, I bought my Axim before the promotion came about, so I'm sure that discludes me too, even though I've only had my Axim for about a month. I'll be paying the $39.00 for WM 5.

I bought my X50v in a deal of the week that they had a week before they were offering the WM 5.0 free upgrade. Needless to say, I was annoyed.

After about half an hour of being transferred all over w/ Dell, I managed to get them to give me the WM 5.0 upgrade for free though. The deal of the week they were offering by that time was identical in features and price except for the upgrade. The supervisor said I ordered it close enough so they did it for me. I'm happy now!

If you got yours fairly recently and they have an identical deal, you might be able to convince them to give you the upgrade too! Worth a try....

Yep - Same happened to me - ordered on Sunday they started offering the free upgrade on Tuesday (before I received my x50v). I did a 'support chat' online with Akmhed Urabiis and he got me all hooked up with my free upgrade.

remember that the license fee is minimal and it is all worked into Dells pricing...

I remember that the CE Core is around 2-3$ so i assume WM5 is just a little bit more then that for dells cost....
