WM5 Upgrade

Hi everyone,

Think I'm going to order an X50v from dell uk, but only if they agree to upgrade to WM5 for free when it's available. Has anybody else tried this and if so did you get any joy?

Hasn't even been released yet.

I believe when you order, it is included with the Purchase. It should be mentioned on the Invoice prior to completion of the Sale.

Yes! I don't want to buy another x30 as it will soon be unsupported, which leaves me with the X50.

This will soon ship with WM5 as standard. So how much effort will dell then put into supporting 2003se. I think we know the answer to that one

So, do I buy now and then pay an upgrade fee in 2-3 months in order to stand any chance of decent support from dell.

I dont think so!

well you can buy now, get a good level of discount and buy the upgrade, or buy later get a (probably) smaller discount and get the upgrade for free.

or you can wait for new hardware... or a new manufacturer to enter the market... or holographic technology.

The X50 is pretty stable at the moment.. and Dell has a committment to support the device. How are the X30s not being supported?

I actually wrote 'as it will soon be unsupported'. Same scenario as the X50. No longer on sale, no further development required. (Not even a holographic display!!)

It's plain, dell are trying to shift stock before new WM5 X50/X51's are ready which is fine. However, I'm sure you are aware it is always best to by the most current hardware possible in order to push the date of obsolescence as far back as possible.

I need to buy now as my wife killed my X30 on the weekend, and I dont wish to change to another manufacturer as I get epp discount with dell.

I'm just trying to secure a fair deal for a piece of current hardare!

Dell USA is doing a promotion at the moment where you can get a 'free' copy of the upgrade CD (worth $39) . However some people have noticed that the level of discount decreased by $39 when the offer was launched.

Dell is soooo sneaky like that. When they offer the base model at a low price they increase the prices of the accessories and stuff under "customize it". Sneaky Bastards. See Dell is not Number one for no reason. Plus noone offers support like them. Dell is the new Micro$oft. only they actually try to do it correctly. :approve:

The only reason I still have my home PC is to sync my PDA. Otherwise what good is it for? I give it 10 years at most and the home PC will be replaced with the Pocket PC.
