I have Axim X51V and I can say that the battery life is terrible. Maybe a bit improvement with WM5.

Any idea how you can upgrade your x50v to WM5 at a cheap rate?

I don't think you'll want to do that -- the battery goes, your RAM goes, which means a hard reset.

The 72h rule is hardcoded into 2003 too.

I think it's bogus how Dell tries to hit you on the high shipping cost resulting in a final $50+ for the WM 5.0. This should be a ISO download of some sort. Anyway, if somebody has a cheaper solution for upgrading my x50v, I would appreciate it. I am constantly on the road, so the idea of not losing my data when the battery runs out is a lot better solution then when using PPC 2003 SE. If anybody can help of where I can locate the update at a cheaper cost, I would appreciate it. Possibly Usernet :-\.

My X50v is now running considerably hotter and burning through the battery significantly (x2 or more) faster after upgrading to WM5. I have some programs in BIS and the rest on an SD card. The CF card is for data storage. Everything is getting copied from BIS to RAM and maybe back to BIS. There's no telling how many write cycles BIS has, but this can't be good for the device.

It's posts like these that help dispel the myth that all geeks are smart. By the way, I say 33-42% improvement in battery life.

just a note, probably on this site somewhere, if you have ANY battery meter showing it drains the battery.
ie I left Ilauncher top bar meter running & the unit drain is quite fast, ie in 20 mins went from %97 to %93. dissabled ALL battery meters & used if for 20 mins & battery went from %93 to %92...

just incase someone is having problems with battery droping fast, maybe an issue.

I'm quite liking wm5, but as with any new OS, not much support for 3rd party apps yet.
btw anyone know of a freewaare safemode app, as the mCubeSafeMode doesn't work.

It appears that the processor speed is getting stuck on "Maximum Performance" when it is set at "Auto". This is not consistant, usually a soft reset will fix it, but that could be the reason I and others are noting a somewhat shorter battery life with WM5.

After a bit more playing it appears to happen after it has been on the cradle and then taken off. When on the cradle it is at "Maximum Performance" and then when I take it off the processor does not slow down like it should when set to "Auto".

Well Wm5 has made a huge difference for me. I've been streaming music over wifi for the last two hours and my battery is still at 75 percent. Normally it would be well below 50 by now. Come to think of it I don't think it was fully charged to begin with. I have not installed any today screen plugins yet but I plan on using PB5.

What power setting were you using? Was it "Auto"?

I found this probably a bug of WM5, which is appearantly a delay on battery level dectection. The battery meter seems going down very slow even I ran several having loading apps at a time. However, once you soft-reset, the battery meter goes down as you watch it, until it reaches the real level. Overall, I would say there is NO battery life improvement, if not the opposite.

i have noticed no gains (or loss) watching video, playing games or using PIM tools... WIFI seems more efficiant in terms of power use and connection detection.
