Yes Dell is so serviceminded so they decided that the upgrade is only for the US-people, the rest of the world is not that important, so they can continue to run wm2003se.

are they going to sell new x50vs here in canada with se ? this sounds absurd i need the new os to test software on. i guess im lucky HP is offering the upgrade on my hx2755 here in canada. DELL always fails to impress hopefully this "rumor" of a US only upgrade is not true.

I don't think all new X50v will come with se. My only thinking of this is because when I ordered my Axim from my Dell rep here in Canada it was shipped up here (Alberta, Canada) from Texas.
And why would they waste money to create 2 seperate assembly lines. One with SE one without. But that's just my theory.

Dell Canada made a meal of the PPC2002 to WM2003 upgrade so I would not expect this one to be too much better. Best thing is to just give them a call. Several times.

I'm in Canada too, and truthfully, part of the decision of buying the x50v NOW was based on being able to upgrade. Silly me, I just figured cause everyone on here was talking about it, I'd get it for free too.
Bah humbug to Dell on that one; I sent them a fairly nasty email complaining about it.

OK kids, just talked a number of people and ended up in tech support, where a suprisingly useful tech gave me some potentially valuable information..
He stated that he has seen units being shipped out with WM2003SE installed BUT with an upgrade CD to WM5 in the box as well. He said nothing official had been stated yet (or else we'd know of it), but he was mostly sure that a large number of the units now being shipped were like this as well. He also reassured me that the upgrade to WM5 would be free whenever it was officially announced. Obviously this is largely guesswork, but it's nice to hear it from a tech support rep at Dell. Hmm...
