Want an X50v.. worried about WM5

Anyone else in the boat of considering an X50v but worried about WM5?

I know that they are going to offer an upgrade, but the X50v was not made with WM5 in mind. It was designed as a WM2003 device.

I have minor reservations, but i wanted input from others.

I worry becasue i am currently in the X30h boat, that the A06 is a waste and is a huge step backwards.

my feeling is that Dell will never fix this becasue they have moved on to "bigger and better." With that in mind, when the next superdell X300 comes out, Dell will lose interest in correcting the mistakes that are BOUND to be in the first release of WM5.

any thoughts?

Mike

I'm very happy with WM2003SE on my X50v...I don't feel the NEED to upgrade (the only truly compelling feature for me is RAM being used as RAM, and not volatile storage), but I plan on giving it a whirl. Hopefully there's a downgrade path if I'm not happy with the first iteration of WM5.

I think Dell is not looking at this as a x50v with a 2005 upgrade but an important part of thier 2005 line-up and should receive proper upgrades and support. From what I have read the x50v is almost more suited to 2005 then 2003se.

I would think that it would be a good thing to upgrade the x50v to wm2005. The fixes that it has would be worth it alone I think. That's just my two cents.

The x50v is going to be just great with WMo5. The x50v has more ROM than RAM (looking ahead to persistent storage) and the new .NET stuff (including DirectX Mobile) will allow more devs to take advantage of the graphics processor. I have a feeling that Dell knew ahead of time and designed it age well.

Yeah I think it should be okay. The Axim X5 was designed with PPC2002 but when we upgraded to PPC2003 there were many speed improvements so im not concerned it will slow down... I hope the opposite.
