So...Whats the big deal about WM5? What are the possibilities?

Well....go on. explain. Will it allow us to install .exe programs such as Photoshop...and...(god forbid) let us play a decent game or two. I mean, come on. The x50v blows the PSP out of the water excluding a few buttons here and there, and a umd disk drive.

LOL...
I think one of the posts below list the features.
Mostly the everything installed to ROM so you have more ram.
The portable DirectX variation so the x50vs will hopefully find more games that work with it.
And thats about it.

The biggest concern I have is that there have been a few apps (the new AvantGo, for one) that have caused me to do a hard reset to bring the OS back to original. With the OS basically being in BIS, will there be a way to bring the Axim all the way back to the original factory starting point without re-flashing the OS?

I can't imagine there wouldn't be... Where would Dell Tech support be if they couldn't advise people to do a hard reset

But a hard reset won't touch the BIS (aka your "hard drive" under WM5), so there would have to be a way to re-flash your ROM without an upgrade.

Oooo..... That's a major point there for windows mobile 5. Seriously, what would dell support do without the ability to tell their customers to do a hard reset.

Im guessing they will find a way to partition the BIS "hard drive" so that that part is affected by the hard reset, while the rest of it is untouched. Otherwise they could formulate a fast reflash method that acts as a hard reset.

Yes - There will be 'DirectX Thingys' for all WM5 PDA, just as on desktops. The only difference is that the x50v will be faster than PDAs without a GPU.

No, but Direct[XYZ] will still work. The only difference will be speed.

Something I didn't know until I was at a Microsoft Technet day on Friday, WM5 supports image update - A kind of windows update for PDAs, so patches can be applied rather than needing a complete ROM image. updates will still have to come from DELL, but Microsoft are looking at the possiblility of updating "their code" whilst suppliers can patch their drivers etc.

Possibly a great benefit, possibly a nightmare in the making
