Why Upgrade to Windows Mobile 5?

I just got my Dell Axim X50v with a free Windows Mobile 5 upgrade CD...

And from limited info that I've read about Windows Mobile 5 I see no reason to upgrade - and quiet the opposite - that is to stick with 2003 for now...

- By far not all software titles are compatible with Windows Mobile 5
- Windows Mobile 5 needs much RAM...
- No real out of the box advantages - rather a good core for software development...

Maybe I'm misinformed - but I do not see what is all the hype created around Windows Mobile 5 about...

Hope to hear sound answers/comments...

I personally can not wait to get my upgrade cd. I am very much looking forward to upgrading. I guess the one feature that I am really excited about is the persistent memory that will supposedly save on battery life. How much it will save, now that I don't know. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

As Kulnet said, it's the way memory is managed that nakes WM5 so attractive. In WM2003SE and below, RAM is used to run AND store programs/data. What this means is if your device ever loses power (e.g., your battery drains completely, your device hard resets), everything you have installed/saved in RAM (also called Main Memory) is lost. With WM 5, this wouldn't happen since programs/data would be put in the ROM (also called Built-in-Storage), which is untouched by power loss. This also helps to conserve battery life since the device doesn't need to use power to maintain all the stuff in the RAM.

Take a look at this thread for more comments and a link to a good review to WM5:
