Question Wait for WM5 upgrade before installing programs?

I just got my X50v with the WM5 upgrade coming as soon as it is released. From some that I am reading, many programs may not be compatible with WM5. Do you all suggest waiting for the upgrade before I purchase any software such as themes or games, and just bite the bullet for the next month or so?

Thanks,
Adam

Do a backup and try installing the software. if it works backup and do another install. This way you will be able to revert if needed.

You mean revert back to 2003SE from WM5? I don't think that is a practical solution and that is coming from someone who held onto win98se far longer than one should. I suspect you're just suggesting a process to recover when installing questionable software.

Instead, you should ask each software company if they will give you a free upgrade if you encounter problems with their software on WM5. Also, many companies will also offer you a free upgrade to the next version if you bought it fairly recently. Just prioritize your purchases and put off the least important ones to until after WM5 is out.

Or you can try testing the software with the Windows Mobile emulator with the WM5 image. I recently mentioned it at gpspassion: link

But if Dell is truthful about their October release of WM5, what is a month's wait? Just hang in there with the freewares available.

No software company is obligated to provide a free upgrade, so don't expect it. Frenchy has a great option for you to prevent a total loss. If an application is so important to you that you need it regardless of the OS on your PPC, follow his advice.

An attempt to find out if a company will support WM5 is a good idea. Some will very proudly display this. Those that don't should be questioned.

When you the upgrade, you should be given the opportunity to backup the existing ROM. Make sure you do this so going back to WM2003SE is always an option.
